Upcoming Events

Weekly Walks!
The Geek Physique club will meet every week for an exercise walk. The location will vary depending on the time of year but we will always meet at 7:00 pm on Wednesday.

Look for updates on the day of the walk if it appears weather
may be a problem. Updates will be posted to the MNSF group
on Live Journal, the website and will also be sent to the
Geek Physique Google Group.

It is not realistic to expect that everyone can get out every week so if you plan on getting out to walk on a particular week, send an email to the Google Group indicating that you are planning on being there. We have found that when one person says they will be walking, others are far more likely to join.

The walks are happening at Mall of America - when the weather gets nicer we wills shift the walks to outdoors. Check in here to keep posted.

April 29th @ MOA

Meet at the west end of the amusement park..

We will do two laps in a counterclockwise direction.
If you arrive late, you can always start walking clockwise to find us.

Locations can be subject to change - especially if there is inclement weather.
Sign up to the Geek Physique Google Group to receive any last minute changes.

Geek Physique
Being a geek in the 21st century is great. Finally, the shows and movies that we stuck by after all this time are suddenly 'cool' and back in the public consciousness...shows like Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica are once again getting incredible ratings, Star Wars and DC and Marvel comic adaptations are dominating the box office. It's never been easier to be a geek.

Unfortunately, the geek community isn't all grand and exciting all the time. Many geeks (and many Americans) are overweight or obese. A growing concern for members of the geek community is type II adult onset diabetes. Weight management can be especially hard on us geeks, because of the community we are apart of. Regular viewings of TV Shows in groups, game sessions that last hours on end, curling up and reading a great novel, going to the movies, being sucked into the pleasantly addictive world of online gaming - these are all sedentary activities. Combine that with the fact that at many of these events, the munchies are pizza, popcorn, candy, lots of soda pop, and other delicious (but unhealthy) foods - this can make starting an exercise or weight loss program a definite challenge.

That's where Geek Physique comes in. Over the coming months, we will be having a variety of get-togethers to share stories about weight loss and diet attempts, learn new and yummy healthy recipes, go for scenic walks around Minnesota's numerous lakes and maybe even attempt indoor rock climbing or ice sledding in the winter. The point is to get off our collective butts, get some physical activity into our day, encourage each other's progress, and have fun socializing with fellow geeks. What else can make that walk around the lake more fun than debating the finer points of Imperial Star Destroyers versus Cylon Base Stars?

Geek Physique is still in the planning stages. If you would like to be involved in this groundbreaking new club, please email us at geekphysique@misfit.org with your suggestions for activities. We'd love to hear from you!
