  MISFITS Working Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 7:00 PM
Location - MISFITS Office, St. Paul, MN

In Attendance:
Officers -
Jodie, Peter, Matt
Guests - Dave B., Dave K. & Cetius

Event Post Mortems

  • Rex Movie Night - John Grams suggested that attendance was low because of Harry Potter. Attendance was 32 at the peak time. Next Year, movie will start at 6 PM, and the movie has to be family friendly. Matt suggested that officers get to help choose movies or pick less esoteric movies. Jodie suggested moving it to January or February next year. Decision on theme needs to be made earlier.
  • Staff Appreciation Party - People there had fun. Peter suggested not doing it again, perhaps a picnic or something. Jodie suggested something less exclusive (one volunteer hour or more). Combine it with the MISFITS picnic.

Club Updates

  • Crafty Geek - Erica ran the last meeting. Four people. Busy weekend. Next meeting is December 11th.
  • Geek Physique - November event cancelled due to weather. Jody Wurl sent Matt a bunch of links of things to do indoors during the winter. Matt is working on scheduling things but it is a busy time of year.
  • Diabegeek - No update at this time.
  • Read the Book / See the Movie - ten people. January meeting is at Dave and Mary's house. The new schedule is out on the web. There are two date changes - April (Minicon) and September.
  • Geek Reads! (Book Club) - Next meeting is December 6th. The book is War for the Oakes. It is at a member's house in Lauderdale.
  • Writer's Group - No updates.

Program Updates

  • In the Schools - Sarah completed a presentation on 11/10 at Crossroads Elementary School. She did two demonstrations there. Thomas has sent her the check. Erin suggested a list of "type of visit at what school" to post on the web. Erin will get that information to Jodie.
  • Happy Holidays - We collected money at Movie Night and at OmegaCon. Matt shared that he was disappointed that the recipient's name was disclosed at the Nov. ConCom and movie after the officers had voted as a group and agreed not to disclose that information. The other officers concurred. About $75.00 has been raised thus far.

Events Updates

  • Room Parties (at other cons) - Jodie is working on party guidelines and she will be contacting head of parties for CVG to get copies of CVG guidelines to work off of.
  • Standing Set Update (CVG) - Jodie asked at board meeting about remodeling of cabana rooms. We can't measure the changes until at least the spring. Ishmael said that there might be a possibility that we could get room 114. Budget for this year's room is $1000 plus $500 for supplies. Recommendation is to focus on modular pieces like the conveyor belt. Dave B. and Jodie have talked to Chris Jones about it. Lab coats for volunteers. Chris is going to make a Misfittle Labs logo for the room party. Viewing/brainstorming party in February. Emily has mentioned helping with electrics and things. Dave is looking on eBay. Misfittle Science Fair - demos in room - playdoh, legos, etc. Big red button for "do not push." We are working on the prop side of things before we move to large set pieces.
  • Dayton's/Hollidazzle Parade - Emily responded to Erica's contact. Emily is interested but doesn't have a time set. Jodie said that Emily can pick a day / time that doesn't conflict with club meetings.
  • Gaming at the Source - No updates until Dec. - It is in January. We will try to debut our new banner there. Peter will talk to Chris.
  • Burlesque Show - Windy said this can be the opposite month of Snow Tubing (Jan/Feb)
  • Snow Tubing Event - Windy said we are on for Snow Tubing. Jan or Feb, whichever is warmer (probably February.)
  • Grand Rios Waterpark - Matt is planning this for March. Should be a good time!
  • Trivia Contest - Room is guaranteed for April 1st.
  • Scavenger Hunt - Peter hasn't hear from Ishmael about a May room. He will continue to pester him.
  • Summer Movie Event - Jodie contacted Melissa at OmegaCon about theater information, she will follow up with Melissa about this.

Budget

  • Jodie handed out copies of Thomas' report. Budget was reviewed. 2005 writing contest winners were paid. Thomas is working on the phone bill. Budget is looking healthy. Cinema Rex needs to be paid after they turn in receipts.

Other

  • Membership Form - Paper form is downloadable, Jodie is still working on a CGI script to have emails sent to secretary with membership data. Cetius volunteered to help Jodie with this.
  • Board Elections - Perrin, Windy, and Tim are running unopposed.
  • Next Meeting Date - Decision made not to hold a working meeting in the busy month of Dec. We will still have a January meeting the 4th Tuesday of that month.
  • Future Meetings - (Tuesdays or Thursdays) Right now, sticking with Tuesdays, but this can change.
  • Jodie gave Matt completed membership forms.
  • Peter suggested that MISFITS include a news and events section in all CVG communications that go out to the general membership.
  • Jodie suggested a Rocky Horror Picture Show outing.
  • Election - Jodie will email Pat about updating bylaws.
